The CV format Bangladesh employers expect is one page (two for senior roles), in English, with a photo, and in this order: contact details, a 3-line career summary, work experience, education, skills, and references. Get that order right and your CV already looks better than most of the hundreds a recruiter sees for every circular.

Below is the exact layout, what to write in each section, and the mistakes that get CVs rejected in seconds.

Why the CV format matters

Recruiters at banks, garments buyers, NGOs and IT companies in Dhaka often get 300–1,000 CVs for one post. The first look takes less than a minute. A clear format lets them find three things fast: who you are, what you’ve done, and whether you fit. A messy CV — or one copied from a 2010 Word template with a full page of “personal information” — gets skipped even when the person is qualified.

CV format Bangladesh: section by section

1. Header: name, title and contact

Put your full name in large text, then one line with the job title you want (for example Junior Accountant or Merchandiser). Below it:

  • Mobile number (one that you actually answer, with WhatsApp)
  • A professional email — [email protected], not cool_boy_99@…
  • City and district (full address is not needed)
  • A link to your online profile or portfolio, if you have one

Add a recent passport-style photo on the right. Plain background, formal clothes, no selfies.

2. Career summary (3 lines)

Replace the old “Career Objective” (“To work in a challenging environment…”) with a summary: who you are, your strongest skill, and one result.

Accountant with 3 years in garments export, skilled in VAT returns and Tally ERP. Cut month-end closing from 9 days to 5 at Alpha Knit Ltd.

3. Work experience

Newest job first. For each job: title, company, location, dates (month and year), then 3–5 bullets that start with an action verb and show a result:

  • Prepared monthly VAT returns for 3 factories with zero penalties
  • Reduced sample approval time by 30% by tracking buyer comments in one sheet

Numbers make a bullet believable. “Responsible for sales” says nothing; “Grew dealer sales in Rajshahi by 18% in 2025” says everything.

4. Education

Newest first: degree, institution, passing year and result (CGPA or GPA). For SSC and HSC, one line each is enough. Freshers can put education above experience.

5. Skills

Split them so they’re easy to scan:

Type Examples
Technical MS Excel (pivot tables), Tally, AutoCAD, Python
Professional Buyer communication, costing, report writing
Languages Bangla (native), English (professional)

Skip “hard-working” and “honest” — everyone writes them.

6. Training, certificates and achievements

Only what’s relevant: a SQL course for a data job, a first-aid certificate for a school role, a district-level award. Keep it to 3–5 lines.

7. References

Two references with name, title, organisation and phone — or simply “Available on request” if space is tight.

Length, fonts and file type

  • Length: one page if you have under 5 years of experience.
  • Font: a clean font such as Calibri, Arial or Inter, 10–12 pt; headings 14–16 pt.
  • File: send a PDF unless the circular asks for Word. Name it Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf.
  • Margins: at least 1.5 cm so nothing gets cut when printed.

Mistakes that get a CV rejected

  1. Two or three pages of “personal information” (father’s name, height, blood group) for a private-sector job
  2. Spelling mistakes in the first five lines
  3. The same CV sent for every job — always match the skills to the circular
  4. A low-quality photo or a selfie
  5. An email address or phone that nobody answers

Frequently asked questions

How many pages should a CV be in Bangladesh?

One page for freshers and people with under 5 years of experience. Two pages is fine for senior roles. Recruiters spend under a minute on a first look, so cut anything that doesn't support the job.

Should I put a photo on my CV?

For jobs in Bangladesh, yes — most employers expect a recent, professional passport-style photo. For jobs in the UK, USA or Canada, leave it out.

Should my CV be in Bangla or English?

English, for almost every private-sector, NGO and multinational job. Use Bangla only when the circular asks for it.

Do I need to include my father's name and religion?

Some government and traditional employers still ask for personal details. Add them only when the circular asks. Private companies rarely need them.
